IPL – Commercialisation of sports
Sports in India had never been less than a religion especially if one talks about Cricket . T-shirts having a print of one’s national flag was the only identity of a player on the field . However , since 2008 , the identity of players have changed . Now the t-shirts of the players only expose the names of the sponsors . Now –a-days , cricket is no more a religion , it has become a business named IPL i.e. Indian Premiere League. Currently IPL is running its 6 th season. As a result, BCCI is expecting a turnover of U.S. $ 1.6 billion at the end of the season. IPL started on 18 april 2008 and from then it multiplied its profit and popularity much faster than the growth of any kind of fungus.
